October 19 is celebrated in Albania as Mother Teresa’s Day. The date was chosen in connection with the fact that Mother Teresa was beatified on October 19, 2003. On September 4, 2016, she was canonized. She was born in 1910 in Skopje, then in the Ottoman Empire, to an Albanian Catholic family. Much of her work is in Calcutta, India to help the poor. Tirana Airport, the second largest square in Tirana, a university in India and many others are named after her.
